Marseille Soap

By Unearthed Paints

Typically used as a finish coat on Unearthed Lime Plasters, this olive oil based soap was produced for the first time in Marseille during the 17th century. The recipe has not changed since those times. Marseille Soap has no artificial surfactants or preservatives and can be used in a variety of ways.  Dissolved in water and applied on sufficiently alkaline lime surfaces, a part of this natural soap is turned into an insoluble lime-soap, which adds dirt- and water-repellent properties to the surface without affecting its diffusivity.
